What a barn-burner! Give the Amish a reality series and just like the “Bachelor” or “The Real Housewives,” they get a reunion show. TLC’s popular series “Breaking Amish” has turned out to be a huge hit for the cable channel, drawing around 3 million viewers. Each week fans have tuned in to watch four young Amish men and women and one Mennonite as they grappled with life in New York City after leaving their communities. They supposedly experienced a series of firsts — careers, romance and the hard reality that life in the big city is as far as one can get from the farms where they grew up.

But since it’s debut, the show has been dogged by accusations — mostly by former members of the stars’ own communities — that the allegedly fresh-faced members of the cast have hid the fact that some once lived outside the closed community, got married, had children and were divorced.

‘Amish’ breaks stream of junk from TLC

The cast-members’ move to New York City differs from Rumspringa , the rite of passage in which some year-old Amish are allowed to experience the outside world and to decide whether or not they wish to remain with their home communities. A news report on February 25, , stated that TLC had ordered a second season of Breaking Amish with the original cast. A fourth and final season of the show entitled Breaking Amish: Brooklyn debuted on September 18, , with a new cast as well.

One of the cast members, Matt, would go on make appearances in the fifth season of the spinoff series Return to Amish. It has been reported that the relationships between cast members were portrayed falsely and that there were many inconsistencies between fact and the reality that was represented in the television program. As episodes progressed, the production steadily revealed other aspects of the cast’s past activities, including items not previously released as spoilers by other media outlets.

The network has ordered six hour-long episodes, slated to premiere in June Since the Sarasota trip, the entire group has decided to return back to the PA area with the exception of Kate who has decided to stay in NYC.

With two new babies on the way, the original group is growing fast.
